Housing

I was born and raised in the Northwest Bronx, and I’m so proud to call our neighborhood home today. But for too many families like mine, sky-rocketing rents and a lack of affordable housing has made it harder and harder for New Yorkers to live and thrive in our community.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, safe, accessible housing was too far out of reach. But now, as countless families are struggling to make rent or facing eviction in the middle of a global health crisis, our city’s leaders have a responsibility to fight for our housing needs and ensure that New Yorkers can remain in the communities they love.

The Bronx is a great place to live and raise a family, and in order for it to remain that way, we need a Councilmember who will fight for local residents, especially seniors, to protect our housing:

  • Standing up for Tax Fairness for Co-op and Condo owners: Currently, the City taxes condos and co-ops as if they were commercial properties, unfairly driving up taxes for many middle-class residents. At the same time, the City has failed to address the coming crisis from the end of tax abatements that will make housing unaffordable for many homeowners. Eric will fight to keep co-ops and condos affordable for middle-class families.
  • Protecting and Expanding Rent Regulations: Our affordable housing stock is diminishing and under attack from real estate interests. Rent stabilization is the largest and most effective affordable housing program in the city, and we need a Councilmember who will defend it and demand action in Albany to stop the loss of rent-regulated housing.
  • Fighting Airbnb: Eric will support increased enforcement to stop the practice of residential apartments being converted into unsafe and illegal hotels, endangering residents, driving down property values, and taking up affordable housing.
  • Ensuring Affordable Housing for Seniors: Eric is committed to ensuring that seniors are able to age in place so they can live in comfort and dignity as long as their health allows. By protecting and expanding SCRIE, stopping harassment by landlords, and allocating more money for affordable senior housing, Eric will give more seniors the option to stay in their own homes.
